Lassana Bathily, a Muslim man originally from Mali, saved several lives in the siege of a Paris grocery store:
Lassana Bathily, a Muslim employee at Paris Kosher grocery store Hyper Cacher, saved several people by hiding them in a walk-in freezer when a gunman laid siege to his workplace on Friday.
He later snuck out of the grocery store and helped police plan the operation to liberate the hostages. Parisians hailed him as a hero for saving so many lives and many began a social media campaign to award him citizenship.
The French government is taking steps to make that happen next week:
Félicitations, Lassana Bathily!
