Imam Zaid Shakir’s Thoughts On Orlando Shooting

Imam Zaid Shakir is one of the leading religious leaders in America. Only few days ago he led the Janaza (funeral prayer) for the boxer, Muhammad Ali.

He is quite saddened that a ‘deranged’, mentally unstable man who happens to have Muslim sounding name has committed such a barbaric act against innocent people.

Imam Zaid Shakir:

On The Orlando Massacre

Like sane people everywhere, we are deeply saddened and shocked by the vicious massacre of our peaceful, law-abiding fellow citizens in Orlando, Florida. This gristly deed is part of a concerted effort to divide the American people. It will not succeed.

America, despite its flaws, is great because of the greatness of its people. A great people, despite the tremendous pressures at bear, will not allow hatred to destroy the fabric of its nation. Unity and sanity, love and humanity will prevail.

As the Qur’an reminds us, when a single innocent life is taken, all of us, in a sense, have been killed. We will, however, be resurrected stronger and filled with greater resolve to end the vile scourge of these criminal attacks, which ultimately serve to defame, defile and disgrace the very religion these criminals allege to be defending.

Our condolences to the families and friends of the deceased and we pray that all of the injured experience speedy and full recoveries.
