Employers are allowed/permitted to ban staff from wearing visible religious symbols, the European Union’s top court ruled on Tuesday morning. This is the first decision on the issue of women wearing Hijabs at work.
In words, a Hijabi woman can be very simply banned/sacked from work in Europe if the company decides to do so.
The people who accuse Muslims of oppressing women are now saying that it’s illegal for women to work while dictating to women what to wear. For the EU/State to decide what a woman can wear and not wear is a sign of dictatorship.
While some of these “Democratic” countries preach about tolerance, and that they allow for its citizens to wear what they like but then tell Muslim women not wear this or that, is not a country that follows the democratic principles. Those “Democratic” countries preach about Middle-Eastern countries being oppressive against women and making women wear hijab (note, there are only few countries that make it mandatory to wear hijab), but the fact of the matter is they are NO different than the countries they oppose. In fact they are different sides of the same coin. Both of them oppress women in different ways. While one says to wear it, the other (“Democratic”) force women not wear it.

The definition of “symbol”:
1) A mark or character used as a conventional representation of an object, function, or process
2) A thing that represents or stands for something else, especially a material object representing something abstract. for example – “the limousine was another symbol of his wealth and authority”
[Synonyms – emblem, token, sign, representation, figure, image, type]
Muslim women should never accept that it is just a mere “symbol”. As soon as Muslim women accepts it as a symbol, you will lose. Ofcourse it is not discriminatory to ban “symbols”, however the Hijab (headscarf) is not a religious symbol. It’s not something worn to show everybody that one is Muslim or some sort of name badge/tag or a representation tool. It is a piece of clothing which is Obligatory which all practising Muslims have to wear in order to practice their faith. In other words to stop somebody from practising their faith is definitely discrimination. The Muslim community, especially Muslim women should take it to court if you have too. stand up for your rights.
The European Union have successfully ensured further segregation, further racism, and further sexism. Muslim women or any other women for that matter should be allowed to wear what they want. This is oppression in it’s truest sense to dictate what a woman is allowed to wear or not. Does this rule also apply to say cancer patients? Are they allowed to cover their head? Or are they too expected to expose an area of their body that they are not comfortable with? Sadly, this move is designed to drive Muslim women out of the workplace and allows prejudice at work, makes it even harder for Muslim women already facing discrimination to find work in the EU.
