The local paper reports that the parents Aman Ghani lodged a complaint after their son returned home from Clifton School “tearful and distraught”. The Muslim pupil has alleged that a teacher told him to “stop talking, you terrorist” in front of his class. The schoolboy’s friends further allege that the teacher also said, “Asian parents don’t know how to bring up their children”.
A spokesperson for South Yorkshire police told the local paper, “Police are investigating reports of a racially aggravated incident at Clifton Community School on Tuesday, 17 November.
“No arrests have been made and officers are conducting enquiries.”
The incident is also being investigated by Rotherham Council. Karen Borthwick, Director for Schools and Lifelong Learning at Rotherham Council, confirmed that a complaint had been received in connection with the incident. She said, “The council has initiated the safeguarding processes involving relevant partner agencies. It would therefore be inappropriate to comment further ahead of the conclusion of that process.”
