A family in Katghar area in Uttar Pradesh’s Moradabad town denied entry to newly-bought house by their neighbours merely because they were Muslims.

Shahana Bi and her family had no idea about the difficulties she was going to face.

When the family reached their house on Wednesday night, they were not allowed by her Hindu neighbours, to enter it.

The residents of the locality said that they would not allow a Muslim family to live in their neighbourhood.

Local BJP Councillor Vidyasharan Sharma (Bittu) and Shahana’s close neighbor tried to forcefully evict the family and even locked the house and allegedly asked the family to “forget” about residing there.

“We will not allow a Muslim in our midst,” Sharma said.

According to Shahana, “Sharma has been creating problems for us since the day we purchased this house. He has put a lock from outside. If he (Sharma) doesn’t wants us to stay here then why don’t he buys the house? Even we don’t want to stay here. We will peacefully leave the area once we get a buyer for the house.”

Prabha Devi, the former property owner of the house, said, “I tried to sell the house to Hindus but they did not offer the right price, so ultimately I sold it to a Muslim.”

Moradabad Police on getting the information reached the spot and sealed the house as tension broke out in the locality.

Sharma has challenged the police and is determined on the family’s eviction has stated: “Brahmin families live in the locality and under no circumstances we will allow a Muslim family to live in between them.”

“We have registered a case and are investigating the matter,” said a police officer in Moradabad.
