Recently, CJ Davis of St Nicholas Church in Tooting was hypothetically asked if he would conduct the marriage of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. There was no answer as far as I was aware, perhaps he had not read the article in which the question was posed.
However, on the day of the wedding, a “ministry” on Twitter (DCCI Ministries), linked to at least one member of St Nicholas Church, tweeted the ESV translation of Matthew 5:32. This seems like it was casting doubt on the validity of Meghan Markle’s marriage to Prince Harry according to Christianity.
But I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except on the ground of sexual immorality, makes her commit adultery, and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery. [ESV Matthew 5:32]
Whether this tweet and Bible verse represents St Nicholas Church’s stance as a whole is unclear.
In Islam a divorcee is free to remarry somebody else. If there’s a royal family member who does end up divorced and wishes to remarry without Christians throwing shade at you, look to marry a Muslim. Now that would turn more heads than Bishop Michael Curry’s speech!
