In this article I will establish that the age for marriage, when someone is allowed to get married Biblically, is when one enters puberty. The Bible makes mention the general age of girl allowed for “love-making”. The reference is found in a parable where God compares Israel to a baby girl whom YHWH took in and then married her off, later.

4 On the day you were born your cord was not cut, nor were you washed with water to make you clean, nor were you rubbed with salt or wrapped in cloths. 5 No one looked on you with pity or had compassion enough to do any of these things for you. As you read the passage, the girl attained the age for lovemaking after her breast had grown and pubic hairs, these are some signs of puberty. As shown, the Bible does not give explicit age for someone to have relations, but what it does give, reading the passage, ‘puberty’ is the minimum age for relations to begin.
One should be aware here, that “puberty” is not clear cut what exactly means historically speaking. Scholars in the past have deduced at times that when a girl grew few hairs she was considered to be hitting “puberty”, even though she may have not menstruated yet.

Verse 7 …thy breasts are fashioned; swelled and stood out; were come to a proper size and shape, as in persons grown and marriageable; see Song of Solomon 8:10;
and thine hair is grown; an euphemism, expressive of puberty, which in females was at twelve years of age… [1]

…The baby girl arrived ‘at full womanhood,’ that is, sexual maturity, as her ‘breasts developed’ and her ‘(pubic) hair had sprouted’ (author’s translation). She was ‘ripe’ for marriage. Between birth and puberty there is no mention of further divine care… [3]

6-7: God wills the abandoned infant to live. She lives and grows to puberty. ‘Live in spite of your blood’, may also be understood as ‘live because of your blood,’ and with this understanding these words are incorporated in the circumcision ceremony. 8: Upon reaching puberty, she is ready for marriage... Although the Old Testament nowhere explicitly states the typical ages for marriage, the mention of the ‘age for (sexual) love’ in Ezek. 16:8 may suggest that women generally married soon after puberty. [5]
The Song of Songs: A Continental Commentary – Othmar Keel,
[8:8] Ezek. 16.7 names the development of the breasts and the growth of pubic hair as signs of puberty (when the girl became eligible for marriage). [6]

Developed breasts and appearance of pubic hair were signs of puberty and signalled the woman’s physical preparedness for marriage (see Ezek 16.7). [7]
I briefly need to mention again here, when some of the commentaries say, ”puberty”, this is very ambiguous. According to classical Rabbis and contemporary scholars “puberty” here, this does not equate to that a girl has menstruated, but rather a girl could be called by that term for only having two pubic hairs (or armpit).
In conclusion, the Bible provides no explicit age for when a girl is allowed to get married. But, what it does give us is that YHWH – God of the Bible, allows for marriage to be consummated when a female has hit puberty (i.e., grew few hairs). [8]

The age is defiend as “when you hit puberty” or “when you have breasts”. So, there is no specific age. Propably intentionally, because marriage to cousins and girls of 6 years was propably not that uncommon in the time.
The somewhat more current churchlaw in germany put it at 12 (women) and 14 (men).
18 is a entirely secular/progressive idea of the modern era. And you can bet conservative christians were agaisnt that too.
Funny enough the same conservatives now give Moslems gripe over Mohamed marrying a 6 year old. When this was nothing special in Chrisitanity either, by any stretch.
I don’t understand why you say girl of 6, since a 6 year old is well before puberty. Wouldn’t something like 12-14 better match that qualification?
Their marriages were betrothals. The closest thing that we have today is engagement but betrothal is binding, not to be broken except for just cause (fornication by the bride). Consummation and cohabitation waited until puberty.

There was no love making outside of marriage in those days. When they talked about love making it was understood that the woman was taken as a bride before the love making.

What the bible said you should not do and what was done are two very different things. You might think those were very “abstinent” times, but it was more like Game of Thrones then a Nun Documentary.
And the willingness of the women was far from a “standart concern”.
If you think the Crusaders where in any way “good Christians”, you propably did not hear that the price for going on the Crusade was loot+forgiving of all sins (aka Indulgence).
And then there was all the missuse of their power christian priests in Europe comitted over the ages.
In the New Testament is repeatedly condemned corruption among the “priests” (< Latin “presbyter” < Greek “presbyteros” = elder). Twice in the Revelation Jesus (Yehoshuah = God saves) condemns the doctrine of the nicolaitanes, the division of the church into clergy and laity. The English Bible doesn't translate nicolaitane (“conqueror over the people) as the separation of clergy from laity had been solidly established for 1,400+ years. The entire Catholic Church, and all of her “daughters,” the Protestants and other reformers and dissenters, was and is, with few exceptions, organized with a clergy ruling over the laity. No way that they were going to translate the word, instead representing it to be the personal name, or perhaps title, of a notorious heretic.

There was no minimum age for marriage. A 14 year old boy could marry a 9 year old girl, but refrain from procreating until the female was at least 12 years 6 months old (more commonly 13/14 years of age on average). Meanwhile, the parents are still the responsible liaisons supervising the relationship until the girl reaches the age THEY require to be met. The marriage is incomplete until it is consummated and the marriage can still be rejected for any reason before such consummation occurs. The couple can NOT sleep in the same quarters before the agreed age either and any social interaction must be done in public or in the presence of guardians. There was a ceremony to initiate the marriage (we would call it “Engagement”), then another ceremony just before consummation (granting consummation of marriage), and years could pass between both ceremonies. If the proclaimed husband violates any of the rules between the two ceremonies, then the punishment usually involved death, imprisonment, banishment, lashings, or a combination depending on the severity of the crime. They didn’t play around with marriage like we do today. They were dead serious about it!!!
People set the age of consent at ridiculous ages, even above 16, then cry when younger girls are having sexual relations.
It has gotten so nonsensical that marriage is forbidden below 16, 17 or 18 yet it’s perfectly legal in several USA states for 12 year olds to be copulating with 12, 13, 14, 15 and 16 year olds , 13 year olds with 12-17 year olds, 14 year olds with 12-18 year olds, 15 year olds with 12-19 year olds, 16 year olds with 12-20 year olds, 17 year olds with 13-21 year olds, 18 year olds with 14+ year olds, 19 year olds with 15+ year olds, 20 year olds with 16+ year olds, 21 year olds with 17+ year olds.
So they can be sexually active, making babies but can’t marry? Gaaahhh! I’m getting a headache!!!
In California eleven years old can legally copulate with eleven through thirteen years old.
